Summer 2025 Newsletter
Dear Water4Haiti Friends,
In the Lord’s name I greet you to W4H’s Summer News Letter. To change the format a bit I have asked Roberto, our Haitian Administrator, to write a short note to you from Haiti. The following paragraphs are as he wrote them to me, so welcome Roberto.
Dear W4H’s friends and supporters. In Psalm9:11 it says: whoever dwells in the shelter of the very high, will rest in the shadow of the almighty. From this verse I am trying to ask you for your prayers for all of our nation who got no hope apparently but sometimes in the very dark moment where we lost all hope and it says all over and the almighty God shows and bring life back, that’s all we need now and it is all possible with your prayers. I want to one more time take this opportunity thank you for all your support just because of your support we able to fix 29 pumps, and dig 2 new wells in village that didn’t access to water people were really happy and thankful to W4H after seeing water out of the ground just because of you we also delivered 15 loads of water, 9000 gal, to different villages so approximately 15,750 people were served, that’s a small compare to past 3 years when most of our area weren’t controlled by gangs, praise God we still alive and able to fix and help others. Thank you, Thank you, Roberto.
Greetings again W4H Partners. This letter as above had Roberto’s reflections. I am going to show some pictures, which I am sure you have never seen and tell a short story about each one. On the island of Lagonave 14 mi off shore from mainland Haiti is the Capital, Anse-a-Galets of 40,000 population. It use to be a really small village until a mission piped in water from a spring several miles away. Well people started to move to where there was water. It is only a 4” pipe then piped all over town. There are 19 watering stations and in the summer the last station always runs out of water during the day. People then bring their buckets to the station and return home until water once again starts to flow later that evening trying to be first in line as the water might run out again. Here are 2 little kids helping each other carry a pail of water from a brand new well which we had just finished a dedication service to it. I do not know how far they had to go but about every 50’ they had to set it down and rest. We had just handed out candy suckers to each of the children. A very wild party! Two little girls doing their job of washing up the food cooking utensils of pots, pans and large spoons. A family of 6 might have only a few forks and bowls, maybe drinking cups but probably share some. I have never ever heard a mother yell at a child to go get the water and get busy on the dishes. Just seem to know what is expected of them and just very well mannered children. I had this kitchen 6’ x 6’ built as I stayed with this family many nights while on the island, long ago by myself doing projects. W4H installed 8 pumps which World Vision had just laying in the village but had no one who knew how to run the concrete or install the pump. Strange, lots of money but no common sense. In the early years we also helped a church in Oklahoma install pumps, all on the island. They had drilled the wells earlier and had the pumps but again no one to install them.
These are the fellows that make W4H what it is. Zog, Roberto and JR. A total of 40 years of experience. All we need to do is raise operation money to purchase pipe, pumps, fuel, tires and repairs on vehicles, as there is not a problem they could not figure out how to fix except maybe a cave in. In the 17 years they have repaired over 3000 pumps and dug over 100 new wells, then installing the new pump. They are standing in front of the gate to our compound gate.
Years ago we were walking on a narrow mountain trail and we met a lady carrying her pail on her head up this very steep trail. I asked Roberto to ask her where she got the water. She pointed down the trail, so we headed that way. At the bottom of the trail we found this wooden box surrounding a hole in the ground with less than an inch of water. It was slowly trickling in as the people dipped out the water into their pails. A very slow process and a line of people waiting their turn. The box was at the bottom of 3 tall mountains and every time it rained water deposited mud into the box. Back to the mother. She said she had to walk one and a half hours one way to the spring from her home. That would be 3 hrs. each day and then she said and I make the trip twice a day. I was stunned. 6 hours out of her day for 10 gal. of water.
Friends, it bothers me to even mention this problem we have. Our donations this June is the amount we usually have by March. Enough said but you get the picture. Thank you.
Do not forget the new address for the Foundation.
